Cheap, DIY Disney Princess Themed Bedroom Tutorial


 The imagination of Walt Disney has given our children a magical world of adventure and fantasy. Does your little princess long for her own enchanted kingdom like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the other Disney princesses? You can make her dreams come true. This step-by-step DIY planner that will direct you through the creation of a complete princess themed bedroom decor and includes tips on decorations, furniture, bedding and accessories.

Wall Decor:

1. Purchase removable Disney princess wall stickers. These should include characters and animals. With removable stickers is that your child can use them interactively in her play. She can reposition them to act out stories and create her own adventures.

2. Select a good washable semi-gloss latex paint that can be scrubbed. Many paint manufacturer's market a special paint for children's rooms. Purchase three gallons.

3. Ask for a one gallon to be divided into 4 pints (16 oz. each). One pint should remain white. Tint each of the other pints in these colors: yellow, bright green, and pink. Have the remaining two gallons tinted a light blue. 

3. Paint the walls with two coats of blue. Allow this paint to cure for several days.

4. With the white paint, create simple clouds over the blue.

5. Use the other paint to create an outdoor meadow scene. Paint a sun, grass, trees, flowers. To create brown for the tree branches and trunks, blend a bit of each color: yellow, green, pink and blue.

6. Let your daughter arrange the wall stickers on the scene you have created.

7. On the door, hang a Disney princess poster. Take a metallic gold marker or paint pen and write on the door Princess ______'s Royal Chambers. You can copy a princess or Disney font style.

Floor Cover:

Rugs: For a princess theme, select one of the many interactive play rugs available. You can find inexpensive rugs printed with castle scenery. These rugs are perfect for Disney princess floor play. She can set up her Disney castle and doll sets with all the accessories. The rug is printed like a map or floor plan of a castle. If you place this under her bed in the play tent, she can keep her castle set up.

Furniture:

1. Bed: Choose a loft style bed with space underneath. Several bed manufacturers make a castle loft bed with a draped canvas play tent that fits under the loft bed and hangs to the floor to enclose the area under the bed. The tent is decorated to look like a castle and can be zipped or opened and tied back. Or make your own castle fort used window and shower curtains. 

2. Storage: The area under the loft bed is perfect for storing toys and books. You can purchase a bin storage shelf with nine open bins in pastel 'princess' colors. You can make your own by simply using any shelf and placing open baskets on it. Label each bin or basket and the shelf with the picture and word for the toys to place in 'puppets', 'blocks',.

3. Bookshelf: Place bookshelf under the loft. Choose a white shelf and paint it with silver and gold trim or scrollwork to resemble castle furniture. Arrange some large pillows or a bean bag chair for her to enjoy her Disney princess books.

4. Art table: Place a tablecloth or shower curtain on the floor to protect the carpet. Keep art supplies in a basket on the table. Put up a bulletin board for her to display her art.

5. Vanity/Dresser: Your princess needs a little vanity table with a little chair and mirror with drawers on both sides. She can keep her clothing in the drawers and do her makeup at the mirror. 

6. Dress Up Clothing Rack: For all the princess's royal dress-up clothes, set up a coat rack or wall-mounted rack. Her dress up clothes will last longer hung up than stored in a bin. Buy any inexpensive rack and spray paint it gold. Hot glue faux gems to the rack. You can buy the paint and gems at craft outlets or hardware. Gold spray paint can be found with the model paints also.


Bed Linens And Curtains:


1. Cover windows with sheer curtains that drape and are easy to open and close. Decorate curtains with faux gems, ribbon, glitter and silk flowers.

2. Purchase a tulle canopy available in most any department store. Mount this over the bed.

3. Bedding: Sheets, pillowcases and comforters in the Disney princess theme are available to order or purchase from many retailers like Amazon. Discount stores like Dollar General. have an off brand of princess bedding as well as bed pillows with the actual Disney princess images for around $5. Select a good quality sheet set with at least 180 count thread. Or just get pink sheets! 

4. Blankets: You can also purchase Disney princess polar fleece from fabric stores and hem the edge to make your own blankets.

Lighting:

1. Create a princess themed lamp for art work and reading by repurposing a plain shade covered with any princess-y fabric. Tulle works great. Your little princess can make her own by adding fake gems and glitter. 

2. Hang purple, pink or white holiday lights along the edge of the ceiling. This will create an enchanted atmosphere.
